Mehdi Sarmady

Mehdi Sarmady has extensive work experience in the field of data science and genomics. Mehdi currently holds the position of VP, Head of Data Science and Genomics at Spark Therapeutics, Inc. since July 2022. Prior to that, they served as Senior Director, Head of Data Science at the same company from May 2020 to June 2022.

Before joining Spark Therapeutics, Inc., Mehdi worked at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where they held various roles including Senior Director of Bioinformatics, Director of Bioinformatics, and Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. In these positions, they led multidisciplinary teams and implemented machine learning and data-driven solutions to support genomic research and analysis.

Mehdi also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine from July 2017 to May 2020. Additionally, Mehdi was a Member of the Science and Technology Board at Expert Biosystems from February 2011 to May 2020.

Earlier in their career, they worked as a Research Assistant at Drexel University - Center for Integrated Bioinformatics from 2007 to 2010. Prior to that, they worked as a Software Engineer at Samsung Electronics and as an IT Supervisor at ITAL Parts Group.
