Robert Ryan

President, HBK Virtual Test at Spectris plc

Robert Ryan has an extensive and diverse work experience in various leadership roles. Currently, they are the President of HBK Virtual Test at Spectris plc, where they have built a market-leading organization focused on accelerating product innovation. Robert leads a team of 250 employees across several development centers around the world.

Prior to that, Ryan served as the President of VI-grade, a leading provider of driver-in-the-loop simulators and simulation software. During their tenure, the company achieved a compounded annual growth rate of over 35%.

Ryan also worked at Spectris plc as part of the Corporate Development team, focusing on software. Robert was responsible for strategic initiatives in this area.

Before joining Spectris, Ryan served as the CEO of CD-adapco, leading the integration of the company into Siemens PLM after its acquisition for $970M.

Ryan's experience also includes being the President and CEO of Red Cedar Technology, where they successfully transitioned the firm into a high-growth market leader in design exploration software. After the successful growth of the company, it was sold to Computational Dynamics. Ryan also served as the Chairman of the Board at Red Cedar Technology's HEEDS design exploration software business.

Additionally, Ryan worked as the Chairman and CEO of aboutGolf Limited, where they played a key role in driving the success of the company's PGA Tour golf simulator business.

Ryan's earlier experiences include being a Member of Plymouth Growth Partners, a fund investing in emerging companies in Michigan, and serving as the Executive Vice President of MSC Software, where they led global software, services, and systems operations and executed successful acquisitions.

Furthermore, Ryan served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Mechanical Dynamics, Inc., where they were responsible for worldwide business operations and directed the company's IPO on NASDAQ.

Lastly, before starting their career in the industry, Ryan worked as a faculty member at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering.

Robert Ryan received their college prep diploma in Mathematics from St. Xavier High School in 1975. Robert then went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Business from the University of Cincinnati, which they completed in 1980. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Engineering from Stanford University, which they obtained in 1981. Robert continued their studies at Stanford and completed a Ph.D. in Engineering in 1986. In 2005, Robert obtained certification as an Open Water Diver from PADI. In 2007, they obtained a Secondary Education Instruction Certificate in Math and Physics from the State of Michigan.
