Joy Buongiorno

Joy Buongiorno currently serves as a Senior Editor at Springer Nature Group, focusing on manuscript handling since October 2023. Prior experience includes roles as a Researcher at the University of Tennessee, where studies on microbial communities in permafrost and fjord sediments were conducted, and as an Assistant Professor of Environmental Biology at Maryville College. Joy's postdoctoral research at the Carnegie Institution for Science involved a NASA Astrobiology Institute project on the evolution of nanomachines in geospheres. Joy also completed a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Tennessee, where significant research was conducted on microbial roles in the Arctic marine sediment carbon cycle. Educational background includes a Master's in Geoscience and a Bachelor's in Biology from Tennessee Technological University. Various teaching assistant positions were held throughout academic tenure, alongside co-presidency at Darwin Day Tennessee.
