Willem van der Schyf has extensive work experience in the gaming industry. Willem is currently serving as the Art Lead at Sprocket Games since July 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Riot Games from 2013 to 2021, initially as a Senior Character Artist and later as an Art Lead. At Riot Games, they were responsible for managing and directing a team of artists to develop new Champions for League of Legends. Willem played a significant role in the creation of multiple champions, including Taliyah, Camille, Kayn, and Kai'sa. Their responsibilities included overseeing the art direction and delivery of new champions from ideation to production. Willem also contributed to the development of team-wide process and pipeline strategies. Additionally, Willem served as a Guest Speaker at Savannah College of Art and Design and Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games + Animation, where they shared insights into Riot Games' champion development process and offered advice to new graduates. Before joining Riot Games, Willem worked as a Character Artist at Stomp Games and as a Production Artist at Turbine, Inc. Willem started their career as a Media Designer at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Willem van der Schyf attended the Savannah College of Art and Design from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interactive Design and Game Development.
