James Shank

James Shank has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and industries. James is currently the Director of Data Product Strategy at SpyCloud since February 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Chairperson of the Board at the Internet Fire Brigade Society and co-founded Acutis Ventures, LLC in January 2022. James also co-founded and served as a board member of the Internet Fire Brigade Society in 2021.

From 2010 to 2023, James worked at Team Cymru where they held multiple roles, including Chief Architect, Community Services, Senior Security Evangelist, Senior Technical Advisor, Manager of Engineering, Engineering Team Lead, and Systems Engineer. Through these roles, they contributed to architecting solutions to global internet-scale problems and improving security.

Before joining Team Cymru, James worked as an Independent Consultant specializing in network administration and technology consulting from 2003 to 2011. James also served as the Director of Information Technology and Telecommunications at St. John's Catholic Newman Center from 2001 to 2010, where they directed the IT department and was a member of the executive management team. Prior to that, James worked as a Network Administrator at Phonak on a contract basis from 2002 to 2005.

James Shank received their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In April 2007, they obtained a certification as a GCIH / GIAC Certified Incident Handler from GIAC.
