Akelah Pemberton has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Akelah worked as the Director of People Operations at Square Roots, where they successfully negotiated a new collective bargaining agreement and implemented strategies for financial stabilization and workplace safety. At JCCA, they served as the Director of Talent Strategy, creating a holistic wellness program and implementing a performance management process. Prior to that, they were a Manager in the Learning & Development unit at the NYC Department of Finance, where they supported career and professional development initiatives. Akelah also has experience at the NYC Department of Correction, Charter Network, NYC Department of Education, and City of New York's Administration for Children's Services, where they held various leadership and coordination roles focused on employee engagement, performance management, and child welfare.
Akelah Pemberton earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology/Human Development from Howard University. Afterwards, they obtained a Master's degree in Human Resources Management from Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. Akelah also holds an additional Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology/Human Development from Howard University. In May 2021, they received a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education.
