Belenna Lauto

Belenna Lauto currently serves as Chair for the Department of Art and Design, St. John’s College, where she has taught photography for last 28 years. She holds a BFA in Photography from St. John’s University and an M.A. in Studio Art, Photography, from New York University. Her work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States, and also internationally in Spain, France, Argentina and Columbia. Exhibition venues include several New York City galleries, The Fogg Art Museum, The Museum of Modern Art of Miami, the Parthenon in Nashville, Musee D'Art Moderne in France, Centro Colombo-Americano in Colombia and the Queens Museum of Art. She is represented in several museum and private collections including the Center for Photography at Woodstock, Islip Art Museum, and the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art. Prof. Lauto has lectured and written extensively on a variety of topics within photographic medium, including featured technical articles in Photo Lab Management, and lectures on historical photographic topics as well as the function of photography in the community at the Queens Museum of Art, Syracuse University, the Alice Austen House, the NYC and Chicago Photo and ProLab Expos, Photo Massan, Swedish Photographic Association Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the Institute for Children and Poverty Conference in Philadelphia. She has extended her photographic services to the community, creating inter-active projects as well as photographic documentation for non-profit organizations such as: the Heart Gallery, Queens and NYC Very Special Arts, GCN Mainchance Drop in Homeless Center in NYC, MAN Foundation, MOMMAS House Residency for Homeless mothers, and F.R.E.E., Family Residences. Her work has been published in Newsday, New York Times, and LIFE Magazine.
