Shelley Hand has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Shelley began their career as a teacher at Memphis City Schools, where they taught Spanish to middle school students and served as a liaison between the school and community stakeholders. Shelley then moved on to work as a reading coach at Failure Free Reading, supporting special education teachers in implementing a reading intervention program. After that, Shelley worked as an eligibility counselor for the State of Tennessee. Shelley then joined The University of Memphis as an Assistant Coordinator of School-Based Clinical Practice, where they coordinated field experience and clinical teaching placements for teacher candidates. Currently, Shelley is employed at Stafford Consulting Company, Inc., where they have held the roles of Director of Training and Vice President of Education and Training. In these positions, they managed high-level training contracts with various federal civilian and military agencies, coordinated open enrollment classes, and captured training opportunities.

Shelley Hand has an extensive education history. Shelley obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from The University of Memphis from 1998 to 2005. Following this, they pursued a Master of Teaching degree in Spanish from Christian Brothers University from 2008 to 2010.

In 2015, Shelley continued their education at The University of Memphis, where they obtained a Graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language/ESL Language Instructor in 2016. Shelley furthered their studies at the same institution and earned a Master of Science degree in School Library Media Specialist from 2017 to the present.

In addition to their degrees, Shelley has obtained several certifications. Shelley completed the Train-The-Trainer program offered by The Bob Pike Group in January 2020. In December 2016, they obtained another Graduate Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from The University of Memphis. Most recently, in October 2021, Shelley completed the Introduction to IACET Accreditation Workshop, a two-day program offered by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education & Training (IACET).
