Chief Investment Officer at Standard Life Aberdeen

Having worked for over 35 years in the asset management industry, Rod brings a wealth of investment experience, an extensive technical skillset and valuable knowledge of global markets to his role as Chief Investment Officer for Standard Life Aberdeen plc.

Rod joined Standard Life Investments in 2002 as Head of Global Fixed Income, and was appointed as Head of Investments in 2007 and latterly as Chief Investment Officer in 2013. His current responsibilities as Chief Investment Officer include oversight of investment activities in both public and private markets. From 2017 to 2019 Rod served on the Board of Standard Life Aberdeen plc, and before this was a Board member at Standard Life Investments from 2004. Rod stepped down from the plc Board in 2019 following completion of the post-merger integration of our investments businesses.

Previously, Rod was a Managing Director of Global Fixed Income at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and, before that, a Director at Mercury Asset Management which he joined in 1984. He started his career at Chase Manhattan Bank as a Credit Analyst in 1981. During his career Rod has gained experience in the direct management of both Equity and Fixed Income portfolios for a wide variety of mandates, prior to assuming broader management and oversight responsibilities.
