Steve Gallagher

Chief Information Officer, University IT at Stanford University

Steve is the chief information officer (CIO) of Stanford University, a role that includes leadership of University IT. He reports to Randy Livingston, Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer.

Steve joined Stanford in March 2018. He is responsible for building and executing a vision that leverages technology as a strategic driver for delivery of Stanford’s mission. He is additionally responsible for the University IT services and support portfolio, which includes ensuring technology operations run securely and efficiently. He co-chairs the university’s CIO Council, made up of technology leaders in across the university.

Previously, Steve held the position of CIO at the Harvard Business School (HBS), where he worked with the academic community to define and implement the school’s IT strategy. Prior to HBS, Steve was the CIO at the University of San Francisco, the chief technology officer at Fidelity Investments Capital Technology, and vice president of application development at State Street Corporation. Additionally, he has an entrepreneurial background and founded several successful technology-driven companies.

Steve has a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
