Raymond Rodrigues

Chancellor at State University System of Florida

Ray Rodrigues is chancellor of the State University System of Florida.

He took office as chancellor on November 9, 2022. The Board of Governors of the State University System selected him unanimously for the post at their September 2022 meeting.

Prior to his appointment as Chancellor, Ray Rodrigues was the State Senator for District 27 which covers the majority of Lee County. Before serving as the Senator for District 27, he was elected and served a full 8 years in the Florida House of Representative for the people of District 76. Since being elected in 2012 to the Florida House, he served as the Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee in 2015 and 2016 and was appointed Majority Leader by Speaker Corcoran for the 2017 and 2018 sessions. During his finalterm for the 2018 and 2019 sessions, he served as the Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee under Speaker Oliva’s leadership.

In his professional career, Ray Rodrigues has worked the last 13 years for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) where he currently serves as the Director of Community Relations. Prior to that, Ray spent his first 12 years at FGCU working as the Budget Manager for the College of Arts and Sciences.

Ray Rodrigues previously worked a decade for a corporate component of General Electric where he managed their U.S. Import Compliance program.

Prior to his service in the Florida House of Representatives, Ray served on the Lee County Housing Authority, held elected office on the Stoney Brook Community Development District, and served as the Vice-Chair of the Lee County Republican Executive Committee.

Senator Rodrigues earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Berry College in Rome, Georgia and in 2017 earned his Master in Public Administration degree (MPA) from Florida Gulf Coast University.
