Mala Chapple

Mala Chapple is the COO at Story Syndicate. Mala has over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, holding various leadership positions in content strategy, operations, media partnerships, and original programming.

Mala started their career as a producer and director at The Mala'story Channel. Mala then went on to become the president of Borderline TV, where they oversaw the development and production of award-winning documentaries and reality TV shows.

In 2007, they joined SundanceTV as VP of Original Programming & Production. During their tenure there, they oversaw the development and production of numerous critically-acclaimed original series, including Rectify and Top of the Lake.

In 2012, they joined Eastern as COO/EVP Production. At Eastern, they were responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company as well as the development and production of all original content.

In January 2019, they joined Viacom as SVP, Content Strategy, Operations & Media Partnerships. In this role, they were responsible for leading Viacom’s content strategy team and partnering with Viacom’s media networks on content initiatives across linear, digital, and social platforms.

Mala left Viacom in May 2020 to join Story Syndicate as COO.

Mala Chapple has an Executive MBA from Columbia Business School, a Bachelor of Arts from University of Toronto - University College, and a Bachelor's degree from McGill University.

They work with Kate Barry - EVP, Current/Executive Producer, Jack Youngelson - Chief Operating Officer, and Shane Tilston - VP, Production. Their manager is Liz Garbus, Co—Founder.
