Charles McFarland has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Charles served as the Chief Executive at Theatre of Commerce from June 2017 onwards, focusing on team engagement and connectivity. In 2021, they became a Certified StoryBrand Marketing Guide at StoryBrand, helping companies improve their marketing messaging. From May 2013 to May 2020, Charles worked as a Certified Business Leadership Coach and Corporate Trainer at FocalPoint Coaching Canada, assisting various clients in industries such as real estate, law, healthcare, and finance. Charles was also a Licensed Facilitator at Leadscape Learning from 2014 to June 2017, specializing in incorporating a "Coach Approach" into mid-level managers' leadership style. Charles co-founded and served as the Producer & Director of the Ottawa Shakespeare Company from 2010 to 2012. Prior to that, they held positions as the Artistic Producer & Program Manager at the City of Ottawa and Managing Director at Manitoba Theatre for Young People and Great Canadian Theatre Company. Charles started their career as an Assistant Director at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and later worked as the Assistant Head of the Theatre Section at the Canada Council for the Arts.
Charles McFarland has a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge. Charles also holds a B.A. Hons degree in English Literature from the same university. In addition, they have received a Certified Advanced Technology Manager degree in Business Administration and Management, General from the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance. Charles further obtained a certification in Change Management, Leader, Team and Business Development from the Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Moreover, they have obtained a Certified LGBTE Diverse Supplier certification from Canada's LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) and a Certified Advanced Technology Manager certification from the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance.
