Mary Ellen Bench is a Senior Advisor at StrategyCorp Inc. and has over 30 years of experience in municipal law and governance. Mary began their career as a Principal at Bench: Municipal law + Governance in May 2019 and served in that role for just over a year before joining StrategyCorp. Prior to that, they spent 18 years as the City Solicitor for the City of Mississauga, where they were responsible for leading a team of lawyers, prosecutors and risk management professionals. In their role as City Solicitor, they were also a strategic business partner and legal advisor to the Corporation. During their time with the City of Mississauga, they participated in many city-building initiatives and ensured that the City of Mississauga received the full range of legal services it required. Prior to their time with the City of Mississauga, Ms. Bench served as the Director of Municipal Law for the City of Toronto for 10 years. In that role, they were responsible for providing legal advice and support to the municipality on a variety of issues.

Mary Ellen Bench has a Bachelor of Arts from York University in Political science / urban studies. Mary also has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from York University's McLaughlin College in Political Science and Government. In addition, Mary Ellen Bench has a Doctor of Law (JD) from York University's Osgoode Hall Law School and is certified by the Canadian Corporation Counsel Association and the Rotman School of Business as a Certified In-House Counsel (CIC.C).
