Role & Responsibility

As we continue to grow our development team, Subvrsive is looking to bring on a Web Development Lead to help provide technical oversight and guidance to our engineers working on our various client projects.  The position is full-time and remote within the US, with the option for hybrid work if located near our Austin, TX offices.  

Our current techstack is React & Typescript on the front-end and Node & Typescript on the backend (with code and CD/CI pipelines hosted in Azure DevOps).  We are looking for a candidate with proven experience working in these technologies and with web development in general.  While these are what we currently use, in the role you will be empowered to evaluate new and cutting edge technologies, and to propose alternate tech stacks as appropriate.

Our ideal candidate has at least 4 years of web development experience and is ready to transition into a role leading engineering teams. They will also be working directly with our VP of Engineering and other Engineering Leads to make high-level decisions about technologies and standards while still being comfortable working directly in the code.

We do a lot of 3D WebGL work (AFrame, Three.js/Babylon.js libraries) as well as WebAR work (using 8th Wall), so experience or an interest in these technologies would be a big plus!

As part of your lead responsibilities, you would be responsible for:

  • Implementing appropriate coding, deliverable, and security standards across our distributed team of engineers.

  • Providing architectural guidance at the onset of projects to ensure successful delivery.

  • Investigating and evaluating new/up-coming technologies as-needed.

  • Working alongside engineers throughout the project lifecycle to provide technical oversight, guidance, and mentorship as needed.

  • Assisting engineers in implementing efficient and robust technical solutions

  • Assisting in project scoping exercises to provide timeline estimates and assess technical feasibility.

  • Being a creative problem solver and providing recommendations or alternatives to client requests.

  • Translating technical requirements into non-technical terms

We're looking for someone with experience:

  • Creating web front-end using React and Typescript that are responsive and performant.

  • Creating web back-ends using Node.js, Express, and Typescript that follow standard best practices for scalability and security.

  • Working in one or more SQL database engines (Postgres, MySQL, or MSSQL preferred).

  • Working collaboratively with other departments (Design, UX, QA, etc.).

  • Tracking project status using either Azure DevOps or Jira.

If hired, you can:

  • Work flexible hours, as long as you're available for meetings within the standard work day (9-5 CST)
