Gemma Humby-Smith

Head of Application Science at The Supplant Company

Gemma Humby-Smith's work experience begins in 2008 as a Waitress and Bartender at Abergavenny Arms. Gemma then worked as a Relocation Associate at TheMIGroup in 2015 before joining CHOICE HOME TUTORING LIMITED as a Private Tutor in 2016. In 2015, they also started working at The University of Manchester, where they held various roles, including Graduate Teaching Assistant, PhD Student, and Postdoctoral Research Associate. During their time at the university, they gained experience in synthesizing and investigating porous organic polymer materials. Gemma also conducted extensive research, analyzed complex data, and communicated results through presentations and publications. In 2021, they joined The Supplant Company as a Senior Organic Chemist and later held roles as Lead Scientist, R&D Manager, and Head of Application Science. Gemma'sresponsibilities involved new product development, managing research projects, and applying analytical techniques.

Gemma Humby-Smith earned their PhD in Chemistry from The University of Manchester from 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Science (MS) in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry at the University of Nottingham from 2011 to 2015. In addition to their degrees, Gemma has obtained certifications in Compressed Gas Safety from Proactive Gas Safety Ltd in January 2019, and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) from The University of Manchester in December 2016.
