Nathan Uter has a diverse work experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Nathan is currently the Executive Director of Portfolio and Alliance Management at Sutro Biopharma, Inc., a position they have held since November 2021. Prior to this role, they served as the Senior Director of Program and Alliance Management at the same company from November 2019 to November 2021. Before that, they were the Director of Program and Alliance Management from April 2019 to November 2019 and the Director of Technology Transfer from June 2016 to March 2019.

Prior to their tenure at Sutro Biopharma, Inc., Nathan worked at AbbVie as a Group Leader of Protein Biochemistry. In this role, they managed a protein production group responsible for the expression, purification, and analysis of antigens and antibodies for oncology drug discovery and development. Nathan held this position from December 2015 to June 2016.

Nathan's earlier experience includes working at Sutro Biopharma, Inc. as a Senior Scientist of Protein Purification and Downstream Processing from March 2011 to December 2015. During this time, they also served as a Scientist of Technology Development for Protein Expression from January 2009 to March 2011. Notably, they played a key role in developing a proprietary system for incorporating non-proteogenic amino acids into proteins, which became the foundation of Sutro Biopharma's antibody drug conjugate technology.

Nathan began their career as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of Utah from October 2005 to December 2008.

Nathan Uter completed their undergraduate studies in Molecular Cellular and Developmental biology at Humboldt State University from 1997 to 1999. Nathan subsequently pursued a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UC Santa Barbara, which they successfully completed from 2000 to 2005.
