Nick Thompson

Assistant Staff Geospatial Scientist at SWCA

Nick Thompson has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Most recently, they worked as an Assistant Staff Geospatial Scientist for SWCA Environmental Consultants starting in September 2021. Prior to that, they worked as an Independent Contractor for the Southwest Fire Science Consortium since January 2021.

In 2020, Nick was a GIS Analyst at New Mexico Gas Company from November 2020 to September 2021. In 2019, they served as the Drone GIS Program Manager for Aegean Energy Group, Inc from October 2019 to February 2020.

Before that, Nick held positions as a GIS Analyst for the Office of Information Technology, Rutherford County Government (August 2018 to October 2019), and as a GIS Specialist for the Pueblo Of Isleta (May 2015 to February 2018).

In addition, Nick has prior experience as a Conservation Intern at New Mexico Land Conservancy (June 2014 to November 2014), a Visitor Experience Facilitator at Explora Science Center (December 2011 to June 2014), an Interpretative Assistant at Valles Caldera Trust (June 2012 to October 2013), and as a Prairie Trek Group Leader/Expedition Staff for Cottonwood Gulch Foundation (June 2010 to October 2013).

Nick Thompson completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in International Relations and Affairs, with a focus on International Development Studies, from Calvin University in the years 2003-2007. Later, in the period of 2012-2014, they pursued a Master's degree in Geographic Information Science from The University of New Mexico. Additionally, they have obtained certifications such as the FAA Part 107 - sUAS Remote Pilot from the Federal Aviation Administration in June 2019 and the FF 2 - Wildland Fire Fighter from The National Wildfire Coordinating Group in October 2014.
