Steve Schmidt

Head of Corporate Development, General Counsel and Secretary at Swell Energy

Steve Schmidt began their work experience as a clerk at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in 1994, followed by a role as a paralegal at Skadden Arps from 1997-1999. Steve then worked as an associate at Winston & Strawn LLP from 2001-2004. Steve joined Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C. in 2004 as an associate, where they primarily advised startup companies and venture capital investors in VC financings. Steve also provided advice on securities law compliance, corporate governance, M&A, and other general counsel issues, with a focus on cleantech and India practices. In 2012, Steve moved on to REPOWER America, Inc. as the Vice President of Corporate Development, General Counsel, and Secretary. In this role, they advised senior management, managed relationships with financial partners, oversaw lease and PPA transactions, managed the legal team, and handled relationships with outside law firms. Steve then joined Swell Energy in December 2019 as the Head of Corporate Development, General Counsel, and Secretary. In this position, they provide business and legal advice, guiding the company in an industry with promising growth prospects.

Steve Schmidt attended Regis High School from 1989 to 1993, where they obtained a high school degree with a focus on liberal arts and sciences. Steve then went on to Dartmouth College, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion & History from 1993 to 1997. Following their undergraduate studies, Schmidt attended Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law from 1998 to 2001, obtaining a Juris Doctor degree specializing in law. Finally, in 2017, they enrolled at The Wharton School and completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with honors, specializing in Finance and Strategic Management in 2019.
