Hoang Vuong

Research Scientist / Scientist at Symbiome

Hoang Vuong began their work experience as a Parent Coordinator for the Higher Opportunity Program for Education (HOPE) from August 2011 to June 2012. They then worked as a Summer Research Intern at the University of California, Riverside in July and August 2012. From April 2012 to June 2014, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at UCLA. Starting in November 2014, Hoang became a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Riverside, a role they held until November 2019. During that time, from September 2015 to December 2018, they also worked as a Teaching Assistant. Hoang joined Symbiome in February 2020 as a Research Associate, where they developed various pipelines for bacterial and fungal analysis. They later transitioned to the role of Research Scientist / Scientist, focusing on the identification and characterization of ancestral skin microbes for skin care products.

Hoang Vuong completed their education at three different institutions. They graduated from Oakland Senior High School in 2010. After that, they attended UCLA from 2010 to 2014, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. Finally, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Microbiology from the University of California, Riverside, from 2014 to 2019.
