Keenan Fernandes has extensive work experience in the maritime industry. Keenan started their career as a Deck Cadet at Gearbulk in 2007 and worked there until 2009. Keenan then joined Executive Ship Management as a 2nd Officer from 2011 to 2015. Keenan then moved to Teekay Corporation and served as a Second Officer from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, they joined Teekay and became a Chief Officer responsible for safe transfer and stowage of crude oil, as well as overseeing deck department operations. Keenan continued in this role when they joined Tai Chong Cheang Steamship Co. (H.K.) Limited in 2019. Keenan has a strong background in safety, environmental and quality management, routine maintenance, and general upkeep of vessels.

Keenan started their education at St Joseph's High School in Juhu, Mumbai, where they obtained their Metriculate degree from 1991 to 2003. Keenan then attended Dr Antonio D'Silva Jr College from 2003 to 2005, where they earned a Higher Secondary Certificate. Keenan pursued their Bachelor of Sc in Nautical Science at the University of Mumbai, which they completed until 2022. In 2013 and 2014, they attended Lowestoft College in the UK to earn a Chief Mates Unlimited degree in Maritime Studies. Additionally, Keenan obtained a Master Mariner FG degree in Maritime Studies from the University of East Anglia. Keenan further enhanced their qualifications by obtaining the National Master Unlimited OC or NC certification from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency in March 2022.
