Mel MacMahon's work experience begins in 2000 when they worked as a Program Manager at Microsoft Corporation until 2006. They then worked as a Ski Instructor at Whistler Blackcomb, Scuba Diving Instructor at Club Med, and AGAP Field Medic and Meteorology Technician at Raytheon. In 2009, they became the Winter Station Manager at South Pole Station for Raytheon and in 2012, the Siple Dome Deep Field Research Camp Manager at Lockheed Martin. From 2013 to 2018, they worked at Two Sigma as a Group Manager and Product Manager, focusing on the development of leading-edge technologies and products. Since 2016, Mel has been the Chief Operating Officer at Talaera, where they are responsible for managing a global product team and growing annual revenues by 300% YoY.

Mel MacMahon attended the University of Waterloo from 1995 to 2000 and earned a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Physics and Computer Science. In 2003, Mel studied Computer Graphics Programming at the University of Washington and obtained a Certificate of Computer Graphics and Game Development. From 2010 to 2012, Mel pursued a Masters of Applied Physics with a focus on Quantum Nanoscience at Delft University of Technology. Lastly, from 2015 to 2017, Mel attended the NYU Stern School of Business, where they earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
