Shannon Smith

Shannon Smith has extensive experience in animal care and education, currently serving as a Mammal and Bird Keeper at Tanganyika Wildlife Park since April 2016. Prior roles include Animal Experience Specialist II at Newport Aquarium, where responsibilities involved husbandry of Black Footed Penguins and leading educational encounters, as well as Outreach Animal Handler for the WAVE Foundation, instructing various outreach programs. Shannon also completed an internship as an Interpretive Collection Keeper at Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, focusing on animal health observation and diet preparation, and participated in an intern role at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, performing nutritional preparations and enclosure maintenance. Shannon holds a degree in Psychology with a focus on Animal Behavior and Ethology from Bowling Green State University.
