John Quarles has had a diverse work experience. John started their career as an Associate Instructor of Japanese at Indiana University in 2010. John then worked as an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan from 2012 to 2015, teaching English to junior high and elementary school students. In 2015, they attended the Nashville Software School as an Apprentice Software Developer, where they focused on frontend web development and Node.js backend technologies. John then joined SmileDirectClub as a Senior Software Engineer from 2015 to 2018. After that, they worked at Lonely Planet as a Senior Software Engineer from 2018 to 2019. Currently, they are the Director of Software Engineering at Tend, where they initially joined as a Lead Software Engineer in 2019.
John Quarles completed their education at Nashville Software School in 2015, but did not obtain a specific degree or field of study. Prior to that, they earned a Master's Degree in Japanese from Indiana University Bloomington between 2010 and 2012. John also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and East Asian Studies from Vanderbilt University, which they completed from 2003 to 2007. In addition to their formal education, John Quarles obtained several certifications, including edX Verified Certificates for Introduction to Computational Thinking and Data Science, Introduction to Computer Science and Programming Using Python, and SQL. John also achieved the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1 certification.
