John David Cowart

John David (JD) Cowart is an accomplished legal professional with over two decades of experience in intellectual property (IP) law. Currently serving as Law Vice President & Chief IP Counsel at Teradata Corporation since October 1999, Cowart advises the executive suite on corporate IP matters and has held various positions within the company, including Chief Counsel for Global Patenting and Senior IP Counsel. Additionally, Cowart was an Adjunct Professor of IP Law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law from August 2016 to December 2021, where responsibilities included supervising a Patent Law Clinic and teaching introductory courses. Earlier in the career, Cowart was an Associate at Fish & Richardson P.C. and began in the field as an Electronics Engineer at Daniel Flow Products, Inc. Cowart holds a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rice University.
