Brian Mayers

Brian Mayers is an entrepreneur-investor with experience building companies and commercializing hard tech. Brian is currently a member on the investment team at Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

Prior to joining Breakthrough Energy, Brian spent 15 years as a business founder and operator focused on the application of advanced materials to a wide range of industries. These include energy, agriculture, healthcare, and consumer products among others. Brian has a passion for translating science and technology into real world solutions to make a difference in peoples’ lives. He also has an affinity for the interface between existing businesses and the startup world – deploying his expertise facilitating partnerships between successful incumbents and emerging enterprises.

Brian’s business skills are underpinned by a robust technical background in Chemistry and Material Science through his Ph.D. work at the University of Washington, Seattle, and Postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University. He has co-authored 25 patents and 30 peer-reviewed publications.
