Associate Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer at Terran Orbital

Jacob Zell has a diverse work experience in various technical roles. Jacob started working as a Research Assistant at the Deep Robot Optical Perception Lab in the University of Michigan in 2018. Here, they developed a remote-control interface for a surveying robot, parsed kinematic data for feedback, and designed housings for dolphin population monitoring. In 2021, Jacob worked as a Research Assistant at the Biology Inspired Robotics and Dynamical Systems Lab, where they used Python to optimize the movement of a centipede-like robot and collected 3D animated models for other legged robots. In 2022, they gained experience as a Software Engineering Intern for the Michigan Medicine Department of Anesthesiology. During this internship, Jacob developed a machine learning model in Python, designed and implemented an app for retrieving medical records, and interfaced with a Flask API. Currently, they are employed as an Associate Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer at the Terran Orbital Corporation, starting in 2023.

Jacob Zell attended the University of Michigan from 2019 to 2023, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science Engineering.
