Kayla Crowell

Adjunct Faculty at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi

Growing up in my family's nursing home and practically being raised by my nurse grandmother, nursing has always been in my heart. So, of course when I went to college at the University of Kansas, I changed my mind and I graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Human Development! Needless to say, nursing was pulling at my heart strings so I applied to nursing school a year later and graduated with my BSN in 2002 from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg KS. I went straight in to Labor and Delivery and from there also practiced in Postpartum, Antepartum, and a little bit of Nursery. I have also been the Health Coordinator for the Head Start program in Southeast Kansas, have worked in Perinatal Diagnostics -which is the ultrasound department for high-risk pregnancies- in Kansas City, MO, and I have been an elementary school nurse! During these non-L&D adventures, I kept my PRN status active and also worked L&D for a staffing agency in Kansas City. After 10 years of floor nursing, I was ready for my Master's degree! In 2012, I received my MSN in Nursing Administration from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS. This was also the year I moved to Corpus Christi and became the Manager of the Labor and Delivery unit at Corpus Christi Medical Center, Bay Area. I resigned from that role late 2014 and in February 2015, I started as an adjunct at TAMU-CC teaching OB and MedSurg I clinicals. In September 2016, I was offered a full-time position here at TAMU-CC and I feel incredibly blessed to call this place home. I recently became a proud alumna of TAMUCC, graduating with my Post-MSN certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition to OB and MedSurg I clinicals, I have also taught MedSurg II eline, Health Assessment eline, Community clinical, Transitions, and now I am the Health Assessment f2f course manager. I am so proud to say I am a Nurse and I am so proud of my profession. I know you will be too! There are so many avenues and the opportunities are exciting and endless! I am happy to call TAMU-CC home!
