Kent Byus

Professor, College of Business at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi

Dr. Byus is a Professor of Marketing & Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC). During his tenure at TAMU-CC he has served as the Chair of the Management and Marketing Department of the College of Business from 2012 to 2018. Beginning in 2018, additionally he serves as the first Professor and Director of Entrepreneurial Education for the College of Business and the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center (CBBIC).

Dr. Byus has an earned PhD in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from New Mexico State University, an MBA with an emphasis in General Business from Texas Tech University, and a BBA with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Texas at El Paso. His research interests focus on entrepreneirual decision making, social entrepreneurship, marketing strategy, rural entrepreneurship, and the distinctions between rural and urban start-up communities. He has been published in several peer-reviewed and refereed academic journals and international academic conference proceedings, including the Journal of Intellectual Capital, Journal of Management Ethics, Health Marketing Quarterly, SAM Advanced Management Journal, the Journal of Non-profit and Public Sector Marketing, The Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurhsip, Entrepreneurial Executive, the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, Management Research Review, the Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies, the Journal of Entrepreneurship and Ethics, and the Journal of Managerial Issues.

Dr. Byus has served on the Editorial Review Board for several academic business journals, including Marketing Education Review, SAM Advanced Management Journal, the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal. He is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Conference of Historical Research in Marketing, the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Marketing Educator's Association.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Byus spent 25 years in commercial broadcasting which included co-founding and serving as President and CEO of Korlyn Broadcasting, Inc.. Dr. Byus served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army with both active-duty and reserve component assignments. Dr. Byus also co-founded King's Rook Development Company, the Telemachus Project and the Pod Hatchery, a not-for-profit business dedicated to helping small busineses unlock the marketing power of well-crafted pod casting. He and his wife Nancy have been happily married for 47 years and have two children; Kory Lynn Baker, age 40 and William Joshua Byus age 36. The Byus's enjoy traveling, have several recreational and investment properties in Texas and New Mexico, and are continuously seeking new adventures for growth, personal fulfillment, and prosperity.
