Pat Fitzpatrick

Assistant Professional Professor, Atmospheric Science at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi

Fitzpatrick has instructed material in atmospheric science, oceanography, modeling, software, technology, and science skills at two minority-serving universities (Jackson State University and TAMUCC). His research includes: tropical cyclone intensity; numerical modeling; severe weather; storm surge; climatology; wetlands; the Deepwater Horizon oil spill; and tropical cyclone history. Publications include 24 peer-review publications, 2 books, and 6 book chapters/encyclopedias. Undergraduate research is an active component of this research, and students sometimes earning internships. These interests overlapped a NASA incubator program which resulted in the commercialization of storm surge, ocean, and weather products at WorldWinds, Inc., Q-risq Analytics, WXWORX, and Baron Weather. Other private sector endeavors include: an examination of wind/surge assumptions in coastal nuclear plants' mitigation; wind forcing of storm surge predictions; and forecasting of hurricane/storm surge events. These experiences are incorporated throughout Fitzpatrick's lectures. Fitzpatrick has also served as a legal expert.
