Michal Tomášek

Vice Chair of Scientific Council at The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

He graduated with honors from Charles University in the fields of law, translation studies and sinology and oriental studies. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, at the University of Beijing in China and at the University of Virginia in the USA. In 2001 he received a Doctor of Science (DrSc.) In Commercial Law and Financial Law, in 2003 he was appointed Associate Professor and in 2006 Professor of European Law. He is the vice-dean of the Faculty of Law of Charles University and the head of its department of European law. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Board of the ASCR for the scientific title of Doctor of Science (DSc.). In 2011, he founded The Lawyer Quarterly , the first legal science journal published in the Czech Republic. Visiting professor or researcher at a number of European universities (France, Austria, Spain), as well as universities in Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and the USA (Arizona, Boston, Chicago, Minnesota, Miami, New York, Seattle ). Holder of the Austrian Honorary Cross for Science and Art (Österreichische Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst). He has received a number of awards for his scientific work, including the Bedřich Hrozný Award from the Rector of Charles University and the Silver Medal of Charles University. The President of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic awarded him the silver medal of Antonín Knight Randy.
