Ondřej Prášil (1963) studied biophysics at the Charles University IFF in Prague. It deals with the physiology of photosynthetic algae and cyanobacteria. He specializes in the development and application of optical fluorescence methods to study the primary photosynthetic production and regulation of photosynthesis of ecologically important microorganisms and their response to stress. He took part in several oceanographic voyages. He lectures and is a professor of biophysics at the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, where he also trains doctoral and master's students. He is the co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, books on chlorophyll fluorescence methods in the aquatic environment and 5 chapters in monographs. His works have over 3700 citations (h-index 33). He led the transformation of the MBU workplace in Třeboň into the Algatech Regional Algal Biotechnology Center.
