Alissa Zhu

Alissa Zhu is a seasoned reporter currently writing for The Baltimore Banner, focusing on immigration and inequality issues in Baltimore since June 2022. Alissa previously held positions as a Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and as a Reporting Intern on the Public Health on Call podcast, where critical community issues were reported. As an Investigative Reporter at The Clarion-Ledger, Alissa covered criminal justice and detailed the state’s prison system and immigration raids. Earlier experience includes serving as a Local Government Reporter for Springfield News-Leader, where local governance and its impact on vulnerable populations were explored, and various internships in media including WBEZ Chicago and Popular Science. Alissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health Policy at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
