Maria Carter

Maria Carter is an experienced journalist currently serving as Editor & Senior Reporter at The Beacon Wichita since February 2024, and as a Producer at City Cast since April 2023. Previously, Maria held the position of Managing Editor at 90.5 WESA from September 2021 to January 2023, where a culture of trust was established among a team of six reporters. Maria's extensive background includes over 18 years at KCUR 89.3 in various roles, such as Editor of Harvest Public Media and News Director, where significant increases in coverage and production were achieved. Other notable experiences include temporary reporting at KEDM Public Radio following Hurricane Katrina and reporting at KBIA Public Radio, earning awards for health-related features. Maria holds an MBA in Digital Marketing from Youngstown State University, an MA in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a BA in Economics from Reed College.
