Joann Obioma has an extensive work experience background. Joann is the Co-Founder of the Black Pre-Law Association, a student-led organization aimed at supporting aspiring Black law students. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Joann has served as a Chancellor Committee Member and Carolina Union Board Member, contributing their insights and expertise on matters involving history, race, and the overall betterment of the university community. Joann also holds the position of President at The Black Student Movement at UNC, where they lead various central committees and works towards creating an equitable and safe space for Black students. Joann has additionally served as a Student Mentor in the SPARK Program at UNC, providing personalized support and guidance to first-year historically marginalized racial/ethnic women. Furthermore, they have gained legal experience as a Legal Intern at the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, witnessing and contributing to the pursuit of justice within the legal system. Joann has also been involved in various roles within the UNC Student Government, where they conducted research, participated in meetings and discussions, and assisted in planning DEI events and workshops. Additionally, they have worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant, analyzing archives and conducting literature reviews on police brutality and social justice movements. Joann has also gained valuable management experience as a Team Lead Manager at Five Guys Enterprises and as a Drive Thru Leader and RQA Leader at Chick-fil-A Restaurants. Prior to their university experience, they served as a Peer Counselor at the UNC Office of Scholarships and Student Aid, assisting students with scholarship and financial aid applications. Overall, Joann possesses a diverse range of skills and experiences, with a strong focus on leadership, community engagement, social justice, and the pursuit of equity.
Joann Obioma completed their high school education at Chapel Hill High School in the year 2021. Joann then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy & Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, starting in 2021 and expected to complete it in 2025.
