Gabriel Nelson is an accomplished robotics expert with extensive experience in research and development, currently serving as Research Lead at The Boston Dynamics AI Institute since January 2023. Prior to this role, Gabriel was Chief Scientist at Figure, focusing on the control of human-like movements, and held positions as Senior Controls Engineer at Boardwalk Robotics and Roboticist at Berkshire Grey. Notably, from 2003 to 2019, Gabriel was Principal Robot Scientist at Boston Dynamics, where core control algorithms for both bipedal and quadrupedal robots were developed. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, where Gabriel also contributed as a Research Associate and Instructor.
