Helena Brittain is a legal extern at The Bronx Defenders, contributing to both the Criminal Defense Practice and Education Project since September 2024. As a student at Columbia Law School, Helena has gained extensive experience in various legal roles, including a Family Defense Internship at Brooklyn Defenders, where assistance was provided to low-income parents in family court, and a legal externship with Neighborhood Defender Service, representing low-income clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges. Previous roles also include defending unaccompanied minors at Safe Passage Project and volunteering for the Uncontested Divorce Project at Sanctuary for Families. In addition, Helena has experience as a tutor, community organizer, and intern with several organizations focused on legal assistance and public advocacy. Helena holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and is pursuing a Doctor of Law degree at Columbia Law School.
