Mark W. Smith

Mark W. Smith, MPA, serves as the Headquarters Canine Coordinator for the National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security since April 2015, where responsibilities include liaising with various federal, state, and local law enforcement and aviation officials while overseeing explosive detection canine team assets. Smith has held multiple roles within the department, including Canine Quality Assessor and Regional Supervisor for canine training and assessment. With previous experience as a Security Specialist and Canine Program Manager for the U.S. Army, and as a Police Officer in both military and civilian capacities, Smith brings extensive expertise in canine program management and law enforcement operations. Smith's educational background includes a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Illinois Springfield and certificates in Project Management and Human Resources Management.
