Thomas A Smith

Thomas A Smith holds extensive experience in emergency management and law enforcement, currently serving as an instructor for the US Department of Homeland Security since July 2011, specializing in All Hazard Operations and Planning. Smith has been the CERT Program Manager for the City of Danville, Virginia, since July 2007, and concurrently holds positions as a reservist and ICS instructor with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management since April 2002. Additionally, Smith has contributed as an Assistant Football Coach at Averett University since August 2000 and has served as Colonel and Inspector General for the Virginia Defense Force since July 1985. A retired Police Captain and Military Police veteran, Smith has a total of 37 years of military service, retiring in February 2018. Smith holds a BS in Law Enforcement Administration from Averett University and an Associate of Arts and Sciences from Danville Community College.
