Richard Burr is an experienced journalist with a career spanning several decades, currently serving as the Metro Editor and Politics and Government Editor at The Detroit News since January 1987. In these roles, Richard supervises the coverage of Michigan government and politics, in addition to managing Washington, D.C. reporting. Richard has a strong background in business reporting as well, having previously held the position of Assistant Business Editor, overseeing multiple reporters and freelancers covering various economic sectors. Richard's editorial expertise was further demonstrated when serving as Associate Editor for the Editorial Page, where editing and website management were key responsibilities. Between September 2006 and November 2014, Richard also held the presidency of the Association of Opinion Page Editors, fostering collaboration among opinion editors nationwide. Earlier in Richard's career, experience included an editorial role at The Public Interest and an associate editor position at the Oregon Daily Emerald. Richard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Oregon.
