Carol Karutu began their work experience in 1998 as a Research Assistant at Kenya AIDS NGO Consortium, where they collected organizational data and conducted qualitative studies. Carol then worked as a Program Coordinator at Global Strategies for HIV Prevention, where they organized training workshops and provided up-to-date information on HIV prevention and care. From 2005 to 2006, Carol served as a Program Manager at PharmAccess International Foundation, overseeing HIV/AIDS surveys and providing technical assistance to a university program. Carol joined IntraHealth International in 2006 as a Project Director in Sudan, where they established a comprehensive HIV/AIDS program and managed a large budget. Carol also worked at FHI 360 as a Country Director for a brief period in 2012. Carol then pursued their doctoral studies at Boston University School of Public Health from 2012 to 2015. In 2015, they returned to IntraHealth International as a Chief of Party for the FUNZOKenya Project. Most recently, as of January 2021, Carol has been working as the Vice President of Programs at The END Fund.
Carol Karutu obtained their Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences with a focus on Botany & Zoology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology from 1993 to 1997. Carol then pursued further education and earned a Master's degree in International Health from Boston University in the years 2003 to 2005. Additionally, they completed a Masters in Public Health degree from Boston University in the same time frame. Later, from 2012 to 2015, Carol completed their Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree in Global Health from the Boston University School of Public Health.
