Irene Chami has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Irene currently serves as the Director of Programs at The END Fund, a position they started in October 2021. Prior to this, Irene worked as the Regional Program Manager for Africa at the World Federation of Hemophilia/Fédération mondiale de l'hémophilie from March 2017 to September 2021. Irene also held the role of Program Manager for Accreditation and Compliance at Intrahealth International from February 2013 to January 2017. Irene's experience also includes working as a Program Manager for Partnerships for Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) at the University of Maryland from November 2010 to January 2013. Before that, they worked as a Community Mobilization, IEC and Advocacy Specialist at RTI International from March 2008 to October 2010. Their earliest work experience includes serving as a Project Manager for Kenya at the Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) from December 1998 to February 2008. Throughout their career, Irene has demonstrated their expertise in program management, capacity building, coordination of research projects, and strategic partnerships. Irene has also achieved notable accomplishments, such as leading the establishment of new policies in Adolescent Reproductive Health and cervical cancer, which were adopted by the Ministry of Health and Education. Irene's dedication and contributions to the field of public health have earned their recognition, including the Opportunities for New Professionals (ONP) award from PATH in 2001.
Irene Chami has an extensive education history. Irene obtained their Master's Degree in Public Health, specializing in the field of Science, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, from 2010 to 2014. Prior to that, they pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health from the same institution, from 2008 to 2010.
In 2000 to 2002, Irene attended the Kenya Institute of Management, where they earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Care Management.
Their undergraduate studies were completed at Egerton University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Sociology, and Mathematics, from 1992 to 1996.
In addition to their formal education, Irene Chami has also obtained various certifications. In 2016, they completed a course in "Finance for non-Finance Managers" at the Strathmore Business School in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2015, they received training in "Women in Leadership" from the same institution. Furthermore, in 2012, they completed the "Managing workplace conflict and mediation" course at the Mediation Training Institute International.
Other certifications include the "Certificate in Global Health M&E Fundamentals Course" from the Global Health e-Learning Center at John Hopkins University in 2011, the "CDC Cooperative Agreements Tax Workshop" from CDC Kisumu in 2011, and the "Global Program Management and Leadership Training" from the University of Washington in 2011.
Irene Chami has also obtained certifications in "Management Skills Development-Training Solutions" from KPMG Kenya in 2011, "USAID Rules and Regulations Training" from Inside NGO in 2011, and "Certificate in Oral Communication Skills, Write Effective Reports, Presentations, and Public Speaking" from the British Council in Kenya in 2012.
