Lawrence Mendenhall

General Counsel and Advisor at The Freedom Fund

Lawrence Mendenhall has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Lawrence began their career as a Judicial Law Clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in 1995. Lawrence then worked as an Associate in the Real Estate and Private Client Groups at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP from 1996 to 1999. Lawrence then joined The Pew Charitable Trusts as the Deputy Director of Legal Affairs, where they served from 1999 to 2008.

In 2008, Lawrence became the General Counsel at The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, a role they held until 2010. From 2010 to 2018, they served as the Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, and Secretary at Humanity United. Following that, they worked as the General Counsel and Advisor at The Freedom Fund from 2014 until their most recent position as the COO, CFO, and Senior Legal Advisor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where they have been since 2018.

Lawrence Mendenhall has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Strategic Management from The Wharton School. Additionally, they have a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from New York University School of Law. Lawrence also earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder.
