Gemma McGuigan (CMgr MCMI, MRPharmS)

Gemma McGuigan has a diverse work experience in the field of pharmacy and healthcare. Gemma currently holds the position of Head of Pharmacy - Bedford Site and Deputy Chief Pharmacist at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this, they served as the Interim Deputy Chief Pharmacist at the same trust. Gemma has also worked as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, where they taught Clinical Governance, Risk Management & Med Safety as part of the PGCert Pharmacy Practice program.

In the past, Gemma has held significant roles at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, including Principal Pharmacist - Governance, Formulary & Homecare, and Specialist Pharmacist - Medicines Information and Paediatrics. Gemma has also gained valuable experience at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist, specializing in R&D and Commissioning, and as a Clinical Audit Pharmacist.

Earlier in their career, Gemma worked as a Clinical Pharmacist at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and started their journey as a Pre-registration Pharmacist at the same organization. Gemma is a member of the Q community at The Health Foundation.

Throughout their career, Gemma has demonstrated a strong commitment to pharmacy practice and patient care, with expertise in clinical governance, risk management, medication safety, and research and development.

Gemma McGuigan (CMgr MCMI, MRPharmS) has a diverse education history. Gemma completed their Master's degree in Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham from 1999 to 2003. In 2004, they pursued further education and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of Derby, which they completed in 2007.

In recent years, Gemma has continued to enhance their professional knowledge and skills through various certifications and programs. Gemma completed the Top Pharmacy Leaders Programme offered by the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) in 2019.

Gemma also obtained a Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership from the Chartered Management Institute between 2020 and 2022. This diploma has contributed to their achieving Chartered Manager Member status within the Chartered Management Institute in July 2022. Gemma further expanded their expertise by completing certifications such as Medical Gases for Service Managers (NHS Technical Specialist Education and Training), Good Manufacturing Practice (warehousing, manufacturing, packaging, and QA) (Inspired Pharma Training), AgilePM project manager foundation (APMG International), Responsible Person and Good Distribution Practice (NSF International - Health Sciences), Introduction to Good Clinical Practice (e-learning) (NIHR Clinical Research Network), and Introduction to Good Clinical Practice - IMP Management (Pharmacy) (NIHR Clinical Research Network) in 2022 and 2023.

Through their ongoing education and professional certifications, Gemma McGuigan demonstrates a dedication to lifelong learning and continuous professional development in the fields of pharmacy, management, and leadership.
