Melissa Lee

SVP, Capital & Investments at The Menkiti Group

Melissa Lee is the Senior Vice President of Capital and Investments at The Menkiti Group where she is responsible for structuring and growing the capital, investment, and fund management activities of the organization. In this role, Melissa also serves as the Vice Chair of Menkiti Group’s Investment Committee. Melissa brings over two decades of finance experience with expertise in investment management and treasury management across multiple industries.

Prior to joining The Menkiti Group, Melissa was the Founder and Managing Principal of Lee Squared Consulting Group, LLC a consulting firm that delivered financial management advisory and analytical solutions for community development organizations. Melissa formerly served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Sheridan School located in Washington, D.C., where she delivered the school’s finance and operations strategy, including investment oversight for the Retirement Plan and Endowment. Prior to that Ms. Lee served as the Director of Treasury Operations at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in Washington, D.C. where she was responsible for delivering the cash, debt, and investment strategy for an annual $3 billion operating and capital budget. In addition, she served as a trustee on several of WMATA’s retirement plans with responsibility for setting and monitoring the strategic direction; issued and managed compliance on over $1 billion in debt instruments to fund operating and capital activities; and delivered a myriad of financial management solutions resulting in more effective processes and practices.

Ms. Lee has also delivered a range of treasury and investment management activities at the Maryland State Retirement Agency, Amtrak, Pepco Holdings, Inc., and Chevy Chase Bank (acquired by Capital One in 2009) that include internal management of investment portfolios up to $500 million and external management of portfolios for plans with assets up to $38 billion, across asset classes that cover real estate, equity, and fixed income.

Melissa holds an MBA from George Washington University, a BBA in Finance from the University of the District of Columbia, and the Certified Treasury Professional designation from the Association for Financial Professionals. Melissa resides with her family in Washington, D.C.
