Cathleen Ryan has had work experience in various roles and industries. Cathleen started their career as an Intern at the Performing Arts Center in 1985. In 1990, they joined the Philbrook Museum of Art as a Facilities Coordinator, where they worked until 1992. Cathleen then worked as a Bailiff at the Tulsa County District Court from 1993 to 1994. Since 1996, Cathleen has been working at The Midland Group, where they hold the position of Vice President, Professional Services and Strategic Initiatives.

Cathleen Ryan pursued their education in a disciplined manner, focusing on their passion for music and eventually law. Cathleen attended the University of Tulsa from 1985 to 1989, where they pursued their Bachelor of Music degree with a specialization in Vocal Performance. Following their undergraduate studies, Cathleen furthered their academic journey at the same university, undertaking a Doctor of Law (J.D.) program from 1992 to 1995, with a specific focus on Law.
