Janet Wong Yuen-Ha

Dean of School of Nursing & Health Studies at Hong Kong Metropolitan University

Professor Janet WONG Yuen-ha is the Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing and Health Studies at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. Professor WONG obtained her professional qualifications and subsequently Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Hong Kong (HKU). During her Ph.D. study, she was awarded the Fulbright Visiting Scholarship (2010-2011) for her post-doctorate experience in the University of Virginia in the United States. Professor WONG developed her academic career at her alma mater since then. During her term of service in HKU, she steered the modernization of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and led major curriculum reform exercises as the Chair of Teaching & Learning. She is also a Fellow of Australasian College of Health Service Management (FCHSM) and Hong Kong College of Health Service Executives (FHKCHSE).

As an active scholar, Professor WONG has been offered competitive research grants and published more than 100 publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Her principal research area lies in health inequalities and vulnerabilities, including intimate partner violence, risky sexual behaviours, ethnic minority and sexual minority. Her research enhanced her capacity to know-how, fostered problem-solving skills, and disseminated nurse-driven innovations and evidence-informed practice to promote health. She is also committed to the innovation and scholarship of teaching and learning including high fidelity simulation, gamification, interprofessional education, virtual reality-based education, and robots. In both 2020 and 2021, she received the Teaching Innovation (Team) Awards in HKU, recognizing her dedicated efforts for excellence in teaching, for two consecutive years.

Furthermore, Professor WONG is passionate in serving for the community. She participates actively in global and local professional organizations including World Association for Chinese Quality of Life and Hong Kong Single Parents Association. She was also elected as the Asia Regional Coordinator in The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing in 2019 and re-elected in 2021.
