Gary Hoenig has had a long and varied career in the media industry. GARY began their career in 1967 as a Staff Editor at The New York Times. In 1980, they became Sports Editor at the Washington Star. The following year, they moved to Newsday Media Group, where they served as Assistant Managing Editor. In 1989, they became Partner and Editor In Chief at NewsInc. In 1993, they joined ESPN as GM, VP ESPN Publishing, where they were a founder of ESPN The Magazine and served as editor in chief from 2002-2007. In 2012, they became Creative Director at Magnum Photos. In 2013, they became Partner and CEO at Electric Yarn. In 2014, they became Partner at Wicked Cow Studio and Editorial Director at The Players' Tribune. Finally, in 2015, they became Partner and Board Member at Vonk Inc.
Gary Hoenig attended Stuyvesant High School from 1961 to 1963, where they studied Sociology and Anthropology. GARY then attended Queens College from 1969 to 1975, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Anthropology.
