Jake Austgen has a diverse work experience. In 2017, they worked as a Teaching Assistant at Gateways, where they helped teach a class of 20 fifth graders about the physics of building toy roller coasters and supervised students on the bus. In 2019, they worked as Beach Staff at San Diego Bike & Kayak Tours, where they tracked the location of kayaks in the water and on the beach, instructed customers on how to kayak, and carried kayaks up and down the beach. In 2020, they were one of the first employees at Cor di Gelato, where they took customer orders, managed the cash register, and served gelato during peak hours. In 2021, they worked as a Systems Engineering, Design Verification Co-op at Insulet Corporation, where they led the development, implementation, and troubleshooting of a process improvement effort, performed tests to verify the product satisfied all product requirements, and created excel sheets to track metrics. In 2022, they worked as an Industrial Engineering Co-op at Raytheon Missiles & Defense, where they contributed to several cross-functional projects and developed strong communication and time management skills. In 2023, they worked as a Strategic Operations Co-op at The Routing Company.
Jake Austgen is currently a Candidate for a BS in Industrial Engineering with a Minor in Business Administration at Northeastern University, which they started attending in 2019 and is expected to graduate in 2024. In 2022, they participated in an International Exchange Program at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Prior to that, they earned their High School Diploma from La Jolla High School in 2019. Additionally, Jake has obtained a CORE Apprentice certification from Raytheon Technologies in June 2022 and a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers in January 2021.
