John Varamo

John Varamo is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in strategic engagement, government relations, and community outreach. Currently serving as the Director of Strategic Engagement at The State University of New York, John leads initiatives in government relations, community outreach, and alumni affairs. Previously, John worked in various roles within the City of Stamford, including Commissioner of Arts, Culture, & Tourism, where John managed significant arts funding and launched innovative community programs. As the founder and CEO of Stamford Pride, John established the first LGBTQ+ nonprofit in the area, successfully securing funding and partnerships to enhance community impact. Additionally, John has academic experience as an adjunct professor at Columbia University and has held various roles in GIS analysis and legislative support. John holds an MA in Climate and Society from Columbia University and a BA in Environmental Science and Policy from Purchase College, SUNY.
